About Andre Smith

We all face concerns and difficulties in our emotional lives that can quickly impact on our work, our relationships and our sense of wellbeing. Left unattended, those same concerns can leave us feeling alone, misunderstood, isolated and unable to move forward in ways that are right for us.

I practice and offer a variety of helpful change therapies that include Counselling, Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy, Life Coaching, Stress Management and powerful Relaxation Therapy. The model and method of therapy that I use depends on each individual’s needs and preferences, meaning that some clients benefit from combination therapy sessions, i.e using hypnotherapy as a helpful and rapid technique when treating someone for stress management, for example. However, other clients may fair much better by focussing on one tailored therapy.

Talking openly to family or friends about our concerns, our deeper feelings or unhelpful behaviour is not always easy. Sometimes it can be more helpful to be heard by an objective, non-judgmental professional who can offer you a safe, accepting and confidential space that allows you to explore and work through those issues and concerns that are stopping you from living a full and happy and functioning life.

My approach to working with all clients, especially for counselling, psychotherapy, and indeed hypnotherapy, is humanistic and very much based on my belief that each individual is unique with their own personal experiences. My method of practice relies on a trusting, open and supportive connection between me the therapist, and you the client. Experience has taught me that every individual has amazing potential for growth and for overcoming problems, and that given the right conditions and therapy, helpful change is not only possible, but also lasting. I do not believe in judgment or diagnostic jargon. I believe that people need to be heard and accepted for who they are now as much as whom they want to become. You are the expert of your feelings because you are the one experiencing them. My expertise centres on understanding and seeing your problems through your eyes, helping you to identify how they are impacting on your life, and exploring with you new perspectives that help you move forward in ways that feel right for you. The work we do together is shaped around your personal and evolving needs.

Why do I believe I can help?
More than my certificates and training, I believe that my most valuable qualification stems directly from my own life experience. Having faced and overcome many challenges in my own life, I know only too well how it feels when the life we are experiencing does not match the reality of who we feel we really are or what we feel we can be. Helping others into more mindful awareness and into a happier and more rewarding life is not just a job for me; it’s my passion and it’s my chosen way of life. Let me help you uncover yours.

My training, work experience and any achievement

I trained for 4 years at the City Lit Institute in Covent Garden and qualified with a counselling practitioners diploma Additional to my private practice, I’m also the Counselling Team Leader at GMI Metro (Vauxhall, London) and at Positive East (London E1) where I joined in 2009
I am also a trained and qualified hypnotherapist and an accredited member of the National Hynotherapy Society
For more than ten years I’ve been practicing stress management, helping clients to effectively control their stress levels with lasting results. And for the same number of years I’ve also offered relaxation therapy and deep meditation.

Sometimes it can be a matter of just not feeling right, or feeling stuck – other times it can be much more obvious, like persistent anxiety, or feeling very depressed. Whatever the cause, it is likely that talking about it will help, and it is during these times that we can most benefit from counselling - a helping therapy that offers both emotional and psychological support, and most importantly, allows you to be heard.
